Welcome to Italy Adagio! It's what I call a "pop" tour company – not even as big as a "mom-and-pop". I founded the company in 1983 and have been the sole owner and operator ever since. I personally design, arrange, and lead each tour.
Historian, College Professor, Longtime Italophile
I have lived in Italy for a total of ten years off and on – studying, raising my children (two of whom were born in Florence), exploring, and conducting historical research and writing about Preaching in Medieval Florence and about Insults & Threats in Medieval & Renaissance Todi [Umbria].
I'm honored to be a Lifetime Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, a former Fellow of the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in Florence (Villa I Tatti), twice winner of Fulbright-Hays research grants to Italy, and Associate Professor of Medieval and Renaissance History, Emeritus.
Teaching ancient, medieval, and Renaissance history – at the University of Rochester, Hiram College, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham – has been one of the great joys of my life. My passion and enthusiasm continue to grow, and I'm still taking one or two small groups to Italy each year.
Experience, Expertise, Dedication
Since the 1980s I've taken over 50 small groups on Italy Adagio tours. About a third of our guests have joined our tours at least twice and some, as often as three or four times.
My goal has always been to help Italy Adagio travelers savor and understand the authentic Italy.
Please contact me when you are ready to experience the best of Italy to the fullest.
