About Us

Prof. Daniel Lesnick
WELCOME TO ITALY ADAGIO

Italy Adagio is what I call a "pop" company – not even as big as a "mom-and-pop". I founded Tour Italy, Inc. in 1983 and have been the sole owner and operator ever since. Since 1989 Tour Italy, Inc. has been doing business as "Italy Adagio".

TEN YEARS' LIVING IN ITALY AND 39 YEARS OF TRAVEL-PLANNING EXPERTISE

I have lived in Italy for a total of ten years – studying; raising my children; exploring throughout Italy; and conducting historical research and writing – primarily in Florence, Todi (Umbria), and Rome.

Since founding Tour Italy, Inc., I have designed all itineraries and made all in-Italy arrangements for close to sixty Italy tours.

A TEACHER AND SCHOLAR

I taught ancient, medieval, and Renaissance history at the college and graduate levels for thirty-one years and am now an Associate Professor, Emeritus, of Medieval and Renaissance History (The University of Alabama at Birmingham).

My research and writing centered on Italian history in the later Middle Ages and Renaissance. I am honored to be a Lifetime Fellow of the American Academy in Rome; a former Fellow of the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in Florence (Villa I Tatti); and twice winner of Fulbright-Hays research grants in Italy.

INSIDER ACCESS TO RARE TREATS

In the many years I have lived and worked in Italy, I have had the good fortune and honor to make many wonderful friends and professional contacts. Their kindness and generosity have enabled me to obtain insider access to special activities and events that aren't available to the public or are off the well-beaten path.

TRAVEL AND SIGHT-SEEING AT A COMFORTABLE PACE

The clue is in the company name – "Italy Adagio" (Italy at an Easy Pace). I want you to experience the full pleasures of Italy's unparalleled treasures of art, architecture, and archeology; its rich history; its gorgeous rurual landscapes and dramatic seascapes; its "places in between"; and, of course, its marvelous regional cooking and wines. To help make this happen, your itinerary will be geared to a pace that is comfortable for you specifically.

My goal is to help you fall in love with Italy, much as I have and as hundreds of Italy Adagio travelers have.

So EMAIL ME, and let's get started!

Mille grazie!

Daniel Lesnick
